A Timeline of Nicki Minaj & Remy Ma’s Rocky Relationship đź‘€by Carl Lamarre

The tumultuous relationship between Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma continues, but it didn’t happen overnight — the two New York rappers have been frenemies for a decade.

In 2007, a budding Nicki Minaj released her “Dirty Money” freestyle, targeting a fellow female rapper as she spit: “Tell that b—h with the crown to run it like Chris Brown / She won three rounds, I’mma need a hundred thou’ / Oh, y’all ain’t know? / Bet y’all b—hes know now.”

Minaj’s lyrics of choice landed her in hot water as Remy Ma reportedly pressed her at a mixtape release party. The two then went their separate ways as Minaj’s career skyrocketed, while Remy faced incarceration from a 2007 shooting where she was convicted of intentional assault that landed her six years behind bars.

After years of harsh subliminals, hugs, and words of adoration, their rocky relationship came to a head this past Saturday (Feb. 26), when Remy unleashed her searing diss record “shETHER” aimed at Minaj. See how their relationship has evolved after Remy was released from prison in 2014.

For the second time in a week, Minaj unleashed a barrage of shots at Remy Ma on Gucci Mane’s “Make Love“: “She ain’t eatin’ but I swear she got some bum a– taste / Text her man like, “Dawg, how that bum a– taste?” / Pay your rent! And stay in your bum a– place / Oooohhh, oh you the qu-e-e-the queen of this here? / One platinum plaque, album flopped, b—h, where?,” she rapped. She punctuated the diss with: “You see, silly rabbit, to be the queen of rap / You gotta sell records, you gotta get plaques.”

February 26, 2017

Twenty-four hours later, Remy Ma took aim at Nicki Minaj when she launched her blistering diss record “shETHER.” Unearthing Nas’ “Ether” instrumental for her attack, Remy spewed venom from every direction. On “shETHER”, she referenced Minaj’s past relationship with Meek Mill, her allegedly using a ghostwriter, and also name-checked Trey Songz, Hot 97’s Ebro Darden as well as Minaj’s brother Jelani on the fiery seven-minute track.

Unimpressed by the record, Minaj posted a now-deleted screenshot on Instagram of an article referencing Fat Joe and Remy Ma’s Plato O Plomo album opening week sales. She also posted audio of Beyonce referencing her as a “rap queen.” As for Remy, she didn’t waste any time after the released her diss record. Hours later, she performed the track while opening up for The LOX in Reading, PA.
